EcoTools Review

Published July 9, 2013 by laurrx

Recently i have been obsessed with EcoTools make up brushes, the finish they seem to give is amazing. i bought the Domed Bronzer Brush a while back and i absolutely loved it, so i bought a few more online and i got them cheaper than i would get them here.

Domed Bronzer Brush

bronzerbrushthis was around £13 i think and from from Boots.
I use this for applying bronzer all around the sides of my face and also to blend out in bronzer or concealer used to contour the cheekbones.
i am really impressed with this, as it’s quite a stiff brush. i was convinced it was going to apply the bronzer in a big blob but it applies even and really easily.
i once tried to use this for foundation, and it was a huge NO NO, the liquid went on my face in big blotches rather than evenly!

Deluxe Fan Brush

deluxefanthis is one of my newer brushes, which i love! this was $5.82 which was around £4.00. i can’t see it on the Boots website, so i don’t know how much the retail price would be.
i use this with Hoola around the sides of my face – and i know i just said this about the Bronzer Brush – and to contour my cheeks.
i also like to apply a highlighter on my cheekbones and the center of my face.

Custom Coverage Buffing Brush

buffing brush
this brush is not on Boots.com but i paid $5.75 for it, which is around £3.90, thats amazing for a make up brush this good!
this is beyond my new complete absolute favourite shiny amazing brush!! i’ve been using to apply my foundation/tinter moisturiser/BB cream. i can’t actually believe how perfect the finish is on it.

i’ve been using it with my Estee Lauder Double Wear, Bobbi Brown Tinted Moisturiser and No7 BB Cream. So here you can see i’ve been using it with three completely different types of product, and they all have different consistences, coverage, purposes etc.
I pour some of the product to my hand then lift it up with the brush and apply it to my face, using swirling motions, buffing it or slightly stippling it on.
i am 100% satisfied with this brush, and would recommend this to strangers on the street.

Airbrush Concealer

airbrushconcealeri wasnt really sold with this brush until around now to be honest, the only thing is that you need to be careful that you don’t pick up too much product. i merely dab the brush into a concealer before using it on my face.
i also find it works best with a concealer wand applicator. i use my Estee Lauder Double Wear concealer and i apply it under my eyes, then i use my brush in light, circular motions. Lighter around the eyes, as this is the most sensitive area.
using it with a cream concealer i find you need to be a little frugal with the concealer you use, if you use too much you end up with far too much product and
1. the concealer looks too cakey
2. the “airbrush” effect, that the brush is meant to have, just doesnt work

Six Piece Essential Eye Set

6piece
this contained 5 brushes and a travel bag for them, but i ditched the bag ’cause i wouldnt use it really. the brushes are travel size, so i wasnt sure what i really thought of them, i like 2, maybe 3 out of the 5 i got.

large eyeshadow brush – the website says “the large eye brush to blend a base shadow over the entire eyelid.” i use this brush to set concealer under my eye with a setting powder or a MAC MSF powder, which works so i don’t actually know how effective this is at applying eyeshadow.
angled crease brush – this “adds definition to the outer crease of your eye”, i use my no7 Crease/Blending brush to add the crease colour and then i use this brush to go back in with the final darkest colour to really make the crease stand out. Looking at the brush i thought it was too big, and looked like it was make a mess, but it’s really good and a handy brush!
petite eye shading brush – this “s perfect for an accent color.” i like this brush for applying the highlight colour in the inner corner. If i’m doing a really dramatic cut crease look, i use this brush or other small brushes to do the crease as it needs to be more defined to achieve that look.
highlighting brush – this is used to “accentuate the brow bone and inner corners of the eye”. this isnt used for either of these things. i use this to blend colours in the crease and outer corners. i couldnt even imagine applying anything into the inner corners with this thing! it’s a really big brush for that.
smudge brush –  this is for “mudging the shadow and liner along the lash line for a smoky finish” it’s probably my favourite in this pack actually! it does EXACTLY what it says and i use it for EXACTLY what i’m supposed to! the brush is stuff enough to manipulate eyeliner and shadows to achieve the perfect smokey eye!

this blog seems horrifically rambly, but i had to share it with. i am in love with ecotools and everytime i’m in boots i always just standing in the aisles just staring at them. i would definitely recommend this brand of brushes to anyone and everyone. they are amazing, and not too pricey!! especially if you get them on ebay! or anywhere else.

and they’re ECO FRIENDLY!

what more could you ask for

nail drying tips

Published April 15, 2012 by laurrx

while painting my nails tonight i discovered just how impatient i am, and had to reapply nail polish about 3 times before i finally learned my lesson and left my nails to dry. i have tried everything and one is most effective.

1. if you apply a really thin coat it’ll dry alot quicker, so maybe 2 or 3 thin coats would work. wait around 2 minutes between each layer. tried and tested and the verdict is a NO. it may work but it takes far too much time and if you’re in a rush that’s a huge NO!

2. loads of cosmetic companies have a range of quick drying polishes which you could use. i read a lot of reviews online and Maybelline New York Express Nail Color seems to be a clear winner. these nail polishes contain a mineral oil that normal polishes don’t, which helps the colour set quickly. tried and tested – i have not. you’d think as a moany impatient nail painter i’d have a huge collection of these nail polishes but i do not, and i will need to invest in some too.

3. using a quick dry nail spray/polish or even quick dry drops on your nails after painting them works a treat. after applying the colour wait around 45 seconds and then:
if using the spray, spray about 12 inches away from the nail and let it dry in for about 10 second
if using a polish, wait about 60 seconds and apply one coat over the nail, then wait about 30 seconds
if using drops, wait about 45 seconds and apply one drop onto the colour, and wait 20 seconds
tried and tested and the verdict was YES. i have used OPI RapiDry spray and polish. both were really good, i was very impressed. except they run out really quickly.

4. using a hairdryer is a really reliable source of nail drying. if your hairdryer has a cool setting, then thats perfect. just use the dryer about 12 inches away and aim it at the nails. don’t use a warm setting as it would actually make the polish more runny! tried and tested and the verdict is YES. this actually works wonders when you’re in a hurry!!

5. pour a bowl of cold water and drop a few ice cubes in before painting your nails, leaving the ice to melt into the water. after painting your nails, let them air dry for about 2 minutes, then sit your hands into the water for 60-90 seconds. don’t move hands around in the bowl, just sit them still. tried and tested and the verdict is YES. alot of reviews and articles on the internet say that using cold water doesn’t help, but i’ve tried it. and this is my opinion, i think my nails dried alot faster!

6. buy a nail drying online off eBay or Amazon or something. the ones i go off eBay weren’t ENTIRELY impressive, but they did kind of help them dry a little quicker. tried and tested and the verdict is MEH. i don’t really know if there are better nail dryers out there and don’t have the money to test them all. so it’d need to be really well reviewed dryers if you’re sure.

if you have any other ways of drying your nails, please, please, please share!

march favourites

Published April 10, 2012 by laurrx

holy march this month actually flew in and i can’t believe it’s 10th april already. i had a few nights out, parties and a weekend away, so i had to use and pack alot of products and i had to be quite choosy so this is how i came up with my

march favourites

batiste dry shampoo XXL volume
it took me a few uses before i decided i liked it. i felt like it didn’t do what a dry shampoo should – make my greasy hair look greasy – and all it done was make my hair tuggy. but when i realised that i actually need volume in my hair sometimes and it really does work.  i love batiste! any kind of batiste really, but this is especially good when your hair needs that OOMPH!

no7 BBcream
i think i wrote about this in a spring blog so just a quick word about it. i’ve been using this NON STOP and i really do love it.

avon lavender and chamomile room spray
this is fully amazing, i absolutely love lavender scents. i spray this over my bed spread and pillows and spray it on my carpet. lavender is known for it’s healing and calming properties, so when it goes on my bed sheets it makes me so sleepy and i am such a terrible sleeper. recently my bed sheets have been drowned in the spray.

one tree hill
when Linda still lived with us, i tried to start watching one tree hill once, maybe twice and i just wasn’t interested at all. but when it was on E4 on mondays i kept watching it with her and i was loving the more recent series. so i was up at her flat and decided i’d start again, but i started from season 2 and i’ve become obsessed and actually confused (because i’ve been watching the DVDs, the present series and the reruns they have been playing on tv during the day). i’m on season 7 on DVD and the present series, and i really love it. my favourite thing about it, is the music. the soundtrack to one tree hill is actually amazing.

Nicki Minaj Pink Friday:  Roman Reloaded
FREAKING AMAZING!!!! i have actually fallen right in love with her these past few weeks! i love all the songs she’s done on Drake’s new album, the songs shes done with David Guetta and, of course, all her older stuff. my ultimate favourite songs on this album are Roman Holiday and Pound The Alarm. i am so extremely very excited about seeing her at TITP!!!!

I have put myself on a make ban, i don’t think i need anymore. so for now i have no new make up favourites, but i’m open to new hair products and TV shows!

spring fling – essentials for the season

Published March 28, 2012 by laurrx

the weather in scotland has been gorgeous this week. there was constant blue skies and the sun was out all day, in work i was sunning myself and actually got some colour. not bad for March, i thought!

but finally spring has sprung and the sun had shone, so i thought i’d share some of my favourite spring/summer products…

No7 Beautiful Skin BB Cream Normal/Dry, Medium
so, i only got this like a week ago but i already LOVE it. i think i’ve used it a bit more than i normally would because of the weather.  this BB Cream is SPF 15 and has 5* UVA technology which protects the skin. it’s great for this season and the weather we’ve been having – of which i hope we get more of – with it being really light on the skin. i use this in the day time, and set it with my MAC powder. with this BB Cream i don’t use concealer, well really in this weather i don’t use concealer (only because i’ve yet to come across a good one that will stay!), i only don’t use concealer because the shade of this i have seems to cover up enough with just one layer.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion – Original
primer is a great invention in the warm weather, there’s NOTHING worse than extreme panda eyes and smudged eyeshadow when you’re getting your tan on. this is the best primer i’ve ever used and it’s UD’s #1  best selling product and i can fully see why. primer potion makes colours pop and it’d make the colour on your eyes look great in this season. i’m sure i read that pastel colours were in and there’s nothing i dislike more than pastel eyeshadow, but after trying it out using the primer it looks really cute and would look great on holiday or just in the park with your friends, or sitting in a beer garden finding your next spring fling…

NARS Blush – Orgasm
i am just in love with this pinky-peachy-corally coloured blush. this picture does NOT do the colour justice (give the NARS website a visit and check it out). it highlights the cheeks as well with the subtle accents of gold shimmer. it’s a great colour for the time of year, really natural and bright. a big plus for this being a blush and faint highlighter, is that it’s a 2-1 which means the less product packed on your face when it’s warm or humid outside

MAC Lipstick – Girl About Town
the things i love the most about MAC lipsticks are probably…
1. the smell
2. the pigmented colour
3. how moisturising they are.
the strong pigmentation really helps in the weather and maybe fun spring activities, where you’d forget to re-apply so it really stays and you don’t need to worry about it. the lipsticks are so moisturising which is great, especially for people like me who forget to use product to prevent the lips from being burnt. and after the lips are burned they need to be moisturised and this not only helps the burnt lips, looks amazing on…the smell is just a bonus.

Some fun flower hair clips from various shops
i love putting flowers in my hair, at the weekend me and my sisters were rocking about Aberdeen with daffodils stuck in our hair. it always looks so summery and pretty. i need to stack up on them for the summer – TITP and Zante – so i can shove them in my hair for something cute to add to the style.

hope you loved my spring fling blog, what’s your favourite product for the sun and the season?

YouTube.

Published March 5, 2012 by laurrx

i’m on YouTube constantly watching hair/make up tutorials, finding answers for games, music videos, downloading music…etc.

a few of my favourite finds are…

*nail art i love this. i tried it once i seen it and it never worked up for me at all, sadface… but it actually fascinated me that it’s possible. i wanna try it again, but i need scotch tape, cos i tried it with normal sello tape and it was rubbish. i just looked through my phone and i cannot find the pics for it. but it was actually quite cute. i done, pink, purple and gold. and another time i tried two shades of pink. the main issue with it was that it was soooo messy. i’d try it again if i thought i’d keep it tidy. i just couldnt be botherd with that mess. there are AMAZING ideas on youtube, i don’t think the one above is the best one i seen. i just watched a girl do a poinsetta (the red christmas flower?) one, it was gorgeous! i also subscribe to “CutePolish” on youtube, the ideas are so simple but they look really good!

*baking!
these look BEYOND delicious! i actually just watched this baking how-to video! it’s so simple and i am definitely gonna make these when i’m doing my next baking day! colourful with some vanilla flavour! YUM! i don’t like to use food colouring sometimes. last time i used Morrisons own pink food colouring and it smelled AND tasted like beetroot! i mean yeah i love beetroot as much as the next person but not on my cupcakes thanks!!

*hair styles
this is actually one of my favourite hair styles. i would never rock about with a general french plait in my hair but this just looks nicer and more like you’ve made an effort, if that makes sense? it looks quite intricate but its actually so simple. i’d never be able to explain it in words so just go on YouTube and search “hair fishtail” and there’s loads of tutorials. once i looked at one for a fishtail and then more came up at the side for all these other hair styles. i’ve tried loads but my fingers are like big mars bars and i get so frustrated that when i get one thing wrong it ALL goes wrong! my favourite channels for hair styles are either “LuxyHair” or “FoxyLocksExtensions”.
i have subscribed to so many make-up gurus and everything, and i think thats how i got so into make up. it’s how i know about the Naked palette and the coastal scents palettes that i now have.if i’m going out i like search “clubbing make up” or “casual day make up”.
i actually love YouTube, i wish i liked my voice enough to make videos…the only way i’d do that is if i magically woke up with an american accent. cause i cringe cringe cringe when i hear my own voice!!!

February Favourites

Published March 3, 2012 by laurrx

hola!

why has my font changed…?

it’s such a gorgeous day outside and i’m sat, still in my jammies, abusing my sky+ planner. February was such a quick month, and when i said this someone replied “oh that’s cause it’s got less days!”. No smart ass, it’s got like 3 less days than any other month but in this case only two less days than any other month…

in February i was loving…

*New Girl
Zooey Deschanel is slowly becoming one of my favourite actresses. I love love love New Girl. i now want to live with those three guys. It makes a Friday night in more bearable. I’m actually watching last nights episode again, i loved it. If you haven’t watched it, i suggest you do!

*Rules of Engagement
i don’t know how comedy can get any better than David Spade and Patrick Warburton. I love David Spade in 8 Simple Rules as CJ, so when i seen that he was in Rules of Engagement i HAD to watch it, then when i seen Patrick Warburton (Nick Sharp in 8 Simple Rules and the voice of Joe in Family Guy) was in it, i was already online watching it. It is hysterical! WATCH IT WATCH IT WATCH IT!

*Bobbi Brown Mini Brights Palette
i got this for my 21st, but as you know i have a disgraceful amount of eyeshadows so i need to rotate ha! this season is all about pastels and the colours in this cute palette are perfect.

*Soap and Glory Righteous Butter
i use this after i’ve showered and used the pulp fiction scrub from S&G, this is one of the company’s first products. i remember first buying it when i worked at those Tiny Taxi’s in braehead. i will not go on about how much i love the products or the smell. but this is actually one of the best moisturisers i have ever used. i always have really dry skin, but after i started using this as often as i do now, i have noticed my skin is soft and hydrated. i would recommend this moisturiser above any expensive brand one. S&G have just brought out a LITRE tub of this. i’m dying to finish this one so i can buy it!!

*Chanel Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow – Fantasme
i love love love this eyeshadow. i bought it in Gran Canaria last year, but recently i’ve been wearing it more often. i always wear it over a really bright colour. But last week i wore it over Mac – Carbon eyeshadow. And it was really nice .it is really long lasting, it’s not like a pigment that will fall out or smudge it’s a gel formula and it stays in place all night. i’ve never wore it on it’s own but it’s like a glitter so i’d always recommend it be worn over a colour, because i also think that over a colour it really pops.
*iPhone apps – Instagram and PicFrame
i got instagram a while ago but i just got PicFrame this morning and i’m loving them. they’re both really easy to use, and they work really well together. you can use PicFrame then send them to Instagram to edit them and post them on your account. Both apps cost 69p, which isn’t much if you aren’t completely skint! i am obsessed. I suggest you download them if you have an iphone right now!
my mum called me about 2 hours ago to tell me to do some housewifely chores…but instead i’ve been making a playlist for Linda’s houseparty, i’ve showered, eaten a load of crap and wrote this blog. i also have to make some dinner, so i should scoot!

S&G – Thick and Fast Mascara Review

Published February 20, 2012 by laurrx

so i was extremely pleased when i received a free mascara with my Elle subscription at the end of January. I was running out of my Lash Blast and Bad Gal, and i was thinking i would like to try a new mascara.

I use three mascaras on my eyes. Bad Gal is really good for intensity, it makes my eyelashes really dark and i like that ’cause i don’t like to wear false eye lashes as i muck up my eye make up when i try to put them on. After that i put on my Covergirl Lash Blast, i LOVE the brush wih this mascara it helps separate the lashes. Then after that i’ll use my No7 Extreme Length on my bottom lashes.

So i thought i’d use the Soap and Glory Thick and Fast Mascara which i got free with the magazine. I decided to use it instead of the Bad Gal as the brushes look really similar. The first time i used it i was going on a night out, so i was really careful when applying it, and i was really impressed with the outcome and how much coverage of the lashes that it gave.

The second time, however, i think i was just going to work maybe, i cant remember. So i just kind of rushed it and then went to the mirror closely and i had mascara gloop EVERYWHERE…i wish i took a picture it was horrific. my lashes are quite long so when i am applying mascara i need to pretty much close my eyes so the tip of the lashes wont hit my eyelid. so i corrected the make up and took a closer look at the wand.

20120220-235133.jpg

you can see it in this picture…at the bottom of the wand there is so much excess mascara there and even at the tip too.

i was really disappointed in this product and thankful that i received it for free because i definitely would not buy it. it may be a cheap mascara at only £10 (yes thats cheap…i hate my new “anything under £15 thats a make up product is crap” attitude…that’s where my money is!!) but i would rather buy a cinema ticket than buy that.

and i would tell anybody this.
