LMFAO and Lemon Drizzle

Published March 13, 2012 by laurrx

sorry for party rocking
on saturday i went to see LMFAO at the Barrowlands in town. and it was
IMMENSE
i loved them before this and now after this i LOVE LOVE LOVE them. i wanna go see them again. it was without a doubt the best gig i’ve ever been to, it was so mad. i honestly don’t think i had the best of views but i could see him when people weren’t mega bouncing about in front of me. it was so mad, everyone was just jumping about like mad. i completely fancy Red Foo now! ♥

i’m trying hard to not turn my blog into a baking blog, but lately all i feel like i’ve been doing is baking. the rainbow cakes proved a thumbs up with the family, and i took some in to work and the girls LOVED them!

March has been a bit of a quiet month, with not much to really share apart from this! i did start to make cupcakes on friday night until i got tempted by company and alcohol. i wanted to make chocolate mint icing until this too. it’s on my baking agenda – but it’s  bad choice as i started a Military Style Holiday Body Regime! oops…

anyway lemon drizzle!

120g butter (i recommend Stork butter for cakes…it’s the best!)
120g caster sugar
2 eggs
finely grated lemon zest – 1 lemon
120g self raising flour

drizzle topping
juice 1 lemon
85g icing sugar

1. heat oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4. combine sugar and butter until pale and creamy. add eggs one at a time, them add the flour in slowly, mixing at intervals. grease your choice of loaf tin/cake tin (here i used a silicone loaf mould), and pour in mixture, leveling the top.
2. bake for 45-50 minutes until you can pull a clean knife or skewer out of the middle. while te cake is cooling, mix lemon juice and icing sugar together until all is combined. poke a fork into the cake several times and then drizzle the icing mix on top.

i didn’t take any pictures of this one, but it wasn’t that successful. unfortunately i made too much mix (as the recipe i read called for double of what i’ve said) and it was too much for my little mould. it was completely burnt at the top and not ready in the middle. so i had to shave the top off and it didn’t have that nice crisp topping. i also made it FAR to lemony!

i feel like baking right now. i always bake whenever i feel something really strongly, if that makes sense? i have an interview tomorrow, so i am REALLY nervous and i find that baking gives you time to think. now i’m googling recipes…Madeira cake. is that bad for you?

i don’t see me doing so well on this diet anymore…

Oscars 2012

Published February 28, 2012 by laurrx

i haven’t watched the Oscars yet, it’s still sitting unwatched in my sky+ planner. but i have had a good few looks at twitpics and on the look magazine website at outifts and hair styles etc.

i was planning on watching it until i watched Gossip Girl instead – was that the last of the season last night? it was beyond amazing.

Brangelina what are you all about?
i cannot stand Angelina Jolie (Team Aniston all the way) so this made me dislike her even more. why is she so pale?? and being that pale and wearing black just makes your ghostliness more white!!! her outfit actually BORES me. black dress, black shoes, no jewellery, no bright clutch… and her hair! i would not be paying that hair stylist – that’s if she did pay someone!!! it looks all back combed and teased and tuggy! i was quite disappointed in this look because, although i don’t like her, i think she can look like an absolute babe sometimes. and Brad…whats with the hair?! he looks like a homeless person. But i enjoy the suit. Any man in a suit is sexy, but he needed to fix his hair!

Jen grow your hair back out!
i really, really love Michelle Williams and have since Dawson’s Creek when she played cute “girl-next-door” Jen. this dress is absolutely stunning, the colour is really gorgeous but i don’t like the detail on the bottom half of the dress, it’s a bit much. her hair is gorgeous…but i really want her to grow her hair! i like long frill/skirt at the waist, it really helps give her shape, as she is quite up and down with no curves. i like the minimal accesories, they help the frill/skirt stand out and she doesnt look too OTT. the small pink clutch is really sweet and i genuinely JUST noticed it there! what’s with the paleness though? was that an oscars trend? i don’t get it…

Maya is a babe!
i think Maya Rudolph is an absolutely stunning woman! this dress is gorgeous and really shows off her figure, the colour really, really suits her skin tone. my favourite part of the dress is the silver detail around the waist, the gorgeous belt helps to show of Maya’s lovely figure. I could imagine the dress without the shoulder detail but not the waist bit. i really love her hair, the colour, the style, the length etc, i think its really nice, and her make up is really understated but it’s gorgeous.

i’ve actually noticed that, looking through all the red carpet pictures from the glitzy and glam event, the make up was far from glitzy. it was nude colours and red lips all round.

Meryl is a GOD!
The “Best Actress in A Leading Role”  Oscar winner looks so happy in this picture! when i see this i couldn’t help but smile. Meryl Streep is definitely up top in my favourite actress list! she looked amazing at the Oscars! her dress was a lovely colour and complemented her shape. it was age appropriate (because there is nothing more unattractive than an older woman wearing clothes that reveal far too much). i dont mean age appropriate to defend her but you know what i mean. i really thought her hair was lovely, it was so simple, but elegant. she had nothing round her neck, but the neckline was quite plunging, so wearing no necklace worked, to help show off the neckline. However she was drop down earrings like big bulbs, and they looked gorgeous on.

another thing i noticed was the use of minimal accesories – small amounts of  jewellery and small clutch bag. the detail and “wow” factors were all in the dresses!

So, looking at all these pictures has made me want to actually watch the oscars! So i predict another blog about them at some point in the near future!

Weekends!!

Published August 15, 2011 by laurrx

Weekends are my favourite. Wether i’m working or not. And this weekend was quite fun! I’m sad it’s Monday tomorrow – although i will get to hear from this job! Hopefully, fingers crossed!!

After a fab chilled out night on Friday night, I was gutted to be going to work. Even though it was just a quick five hour shift, 12-5, it was hellish. I really do hate my work…

In Linda’s car on the way to work we were behind a bus (I hate being behind buses!! Why do they think they own the roads??) and on the back of this bus was this picture…

Now, my thought was “how airbrushed is this chicks face?” but at the same time “How lazy?!” I would not want to take pills so my skin, hair and nails looked perfect, i’d rather just take care of them. Then the “science of beauty” bit – isn’t that just not science?? The science would be remove make up, use a good label skin care, file your nails, use Almond Oil to help them grow, wash your hair enough (but not too much) etc. Knowing about your skin, hair and nails is the science of beauty. Not faking it and taking pills!!

Work was loooooong!! Too long and so boring, for a Saturday. I genuinely though it’d go in quick but NOOO!! So i was glad to be finished! Linda was going into town to visit a friend, so i decided to make Nicholas a nice 3-course meal for dinner. I went and picked up the food i needed then came home to start on the dinner.

This was my little work station

Ready for the mess!!!

And my cheating…
I really, really, really, really love TGIs boneless wings!! I am OBSESSED!!! Completely and I could eat them all day, every day! And I could write a whole blog about them. So i have been researching for months looking for the recipe and it’s like people have deleted them off the internet ’cause it’s clearly some big secret. The Applebees restaurant in Florida had them too, and they were absolutely amazing as well, so i just googled that and something came up. So printed the recipe out and also a recipe for Peanut Butter cookies for Nic. The cookies looked so yum but they were maybe more like rock cakes or something, i swear i thought my teeth were gonna break!!

This meal honestly took me about 2 and a half hours to make, i was starving! So i stole a little inbetweener snack…
Dairylea Dunkers (jumbo sticks), i love these things so much. Yesterday i noticed that the jumbo sticks aren’t so jumbo anymore! Probably they’ve taken all the good/junk stuff out of them! Boo!! The jumbo sticks aren’t as crunchy or big anymore. Boo more!!

The starters were the boneless wings i made and also mushroom alfredo and garlic bread. I soaked some chicken nuggets in the sauce, probably for too long because all the break crumbs were coming right off it!! And i used tabasco sauce so they were so frigging spicy!! But enjoyable nonetheless!  While i was researching the Boneless wings, Nic had picked me up a Hot and Spicy Batter mix which he thought would be alot like the boneless wings so i thought i’d try it out…
AWFUL!! That’s all i have to say. It was a complete nightmare and utter failure!!!

The main meal was chicken stuffed with philadelphia and wrapped in parma ham with potatoe bites and veggies. This is one of my favourite meals to make! I make the potato bites by myself and soak them in oil and salt and pepper and they are so tasty (probably so bad for you but so yum!!). I think i over cooked the chicken, i always do actually because it’s always so dry but practice makes perfect!!

So when i bought the food for dinner, I bought a nice strawberry smelling candle. I attempted to romantic up the table and could not find the candle i bought!! i looked everywhere and i knew i didn’t leave it in work, and i was just defeated thinking i just lost it and maybe didn’t pick a candle up. Soon i found it…
in the fridge?

This is how the table looked, i thought it was very cute. Those flowers he bought me last week, so i thought that was a cute touch.

After dinner we just sat and watched “Red Dragon” with Anthony Hopkins in it. He has been trying to get me  to watch this for EVER now!! And I felt bad because we always watch what i want to watch so we had to watch something of his! I thought i’d end up falling asleep but i actually really enjoyed it and think if you like kind of detectivey/horror/gripping movies you should definetly watch it!!

We had ice cream in bed while we watched 30 Rock (I love 30 Rock! It is hysterical!!) and, as I was taking the ice cream back down to the freezer i slipped on my laptop (my own fault for leaving it on the stairs) and fell down about 3 stairs!! I banged my head on the edge of the stairs, hurt my elbow and ended up with a big bruise on the back of my leg – which still hurts! Linda and Nicholas found it hysterical. I, however was crying, didn’t want to sleep incase i didn’t wake up or i was scared i was concussed or something!!!

Jeez this blog is LOOONG so i’ll cut the day short. Today after Nicholas left for work, Linda and I went to the filling station for lunch – YUM! We got a pizza and cajun chicken pasta! That was very yummy and i recommend it to anyone who wants to find out if it’s nice, or if you haven’t tried it.

Then we had a little shop and i spoiled myself a little!!

I bought myself 3 skirts. I have four nights out in the next few weeks planned and needed outfits and figured i could just wear the same thing for all as it’s all different company!

(please note: this is being published on Monday but it was actually written on sunday!)

Happy Monday…
